The film begins with the episode when Vlad Dracula goes to battle with the Turks in 1462. He wins, but the Turks manage to send a false message to the castle about his death, as a result of which Dracula's wife, Elizabeth, commits suicide. After learning from the priests that the soul of his suicidal wife is cursed, the count renounces God. Dracula rejects God and condemns himself to eternal torment.
