WAHL is an American brand of hair clippers for home and professional use.
WAHL Clipper Corporation is an American family-owned company founded by Leo Wall in 1919, while still a student. The inventor created the world's first compact hair clipper with an integrated motor. The invention compares favorably with its counterparts with a freestanding drive coupled through a flexible transmission.
On October 14, 1919, Leo Wall sent a patent application for his invention - a hair clipper with an electromagnetic motor, thereby laying the foundation for the history of WAHL Manufacturing Company. At the end of the 1920s, thousands of such machines were produced at his factory, which quickly became popular among men's hairdressers in the United States.
