Bose

Bose

Bose is an American audio brand.

Bose was founded in 1964 by Amar Bose. Eight years earlier, Bose had acquired a music center while a graduate student at MIT and was disappointed with the sound quality. This prompted him to investigate the effect of sound reverberation on the perception of its quality.

Today Bose is an American corporation headquartered in Framingham, Massachusetts. It designs, manufactures and markets audio equipment worldwide.

Bose is best known for its home audio systems and speakers, noise canceling headphones, professional audio systems, and car audio systems. The company has also carried out research in the areas of car and heavy truck suspensions and cold fusion. Bose has a reputation as a jealous advocate for its patents, trademarks and brands.

Most of the non-voting shares of the corporation were transferred by Amar Bowes in 2011 to his alma mater and former employer, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He receives cash dividends, but he is not allowed to sell shares and participate in the management of the company.
